Introduction

Mzumbe University in partnership with the the University of Bradford, UK invite applications from qualified applicants for a new postgraduate Programme –Master of Science (MSc) in

Development Policy and Practice for Civil Society for the 2012/2013 Academic Year,

November 2012 to November 2013.

Aims and Objectives

This course will provide valuable academic and vocational skills; that will really set participants apart from the crowd. It is intended to develop the skills of those already working in civil society organisations or those who wish to work in this sector. Upon completion of this unique degree you will have a solid understanding of designing and implementing development projects and programmes from the perspective of civil society organisations, and you will also have gained a grounded knowledge of policies that directly affect civil society organisations and development process. You will also get the benefit of interactive work-based learning in civil society organisations. This programme has been developed jointly by Mzumbe and Bradford to address the specific needs of civil society and non-state actors in Africa. It was supported in the early stages by the EU-funded Non-State Actors Programme in Tanzania. This programme also invested in the creation of a resource centre at Mzumbe University Dar es Salaam Campus College to support the operation of the academic services.

 

Course Structure and duration

The programme is one (1) year full time (including final dissertation). All classes will be taught in the evening. The modules will cover Project Planning, Design and Appraisal; Project and Programme Management; Issues in Development Policy; Working in the Third Sector; Civil Societies; Networking; Advocacy and Negotiation for Civil Society.

Mzumbe University in partnership with the the University of Bradford, UK invite applications from qualified applicants for a new postgraduate Programme – Master of Science (MSc) in Economics and Finance for Development for the 2012/2013 Academic Year, November 2012 to November 2013.

 

Aims and Objectives

The MSc in Economics & Finance for Development will provide a systematic understanding of economic approaches to development and in particular the role of finance and financial institutions in development. Students will engage with critical and current themes in economic and financial development. They will be able to evaluate the merits of the various mechanisms of financing development and to understand the bases for financial policies. They will also be able to choose between

specializing in International Economics or Microfinance, Enterprise and Poverty Alleviation in their programme of study. Microfinance is often offered as a solution to poverty reduction and in this programme students will engage both theory and practice in this crucial area. Additionally the program offers the opportunity to study a range of options covering project and programme management, statistical analysis and issues in development policy.

 

On completion of this degree students may work in the government, the private sector, in development agencies (e.g. regional or national development banks) or in the third sector in capacities relating to economics and finance (e.g. Microfinance or enterprise support and development).
