 Call for submissions: Intern to support the World Bank's Open Development Lab

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Unit of the World Bank seeks to hire a talented and motivated individual committed to the cause of using ICT to enable social and economic development. This is a great opportunity for a self-starter with excellent analytical and communication skills, with demonstrated experience or interest in ICT4D. The Intern will work with the World Bank's Open Development Lab, a new joint initiative of the World Bank Institute and the Information and Communication Technology Unit of the World Bank.

The mission of the Open Development Lab is to enhance accountability and improve the delivery and quality of public services by leveraging innovation, knowledge, and technology from social innovators, technology companies, and civil society. The Open Development Lab will facilitate knowledge exchanges between country-level implementers and global program experts by mobilizing expertise, applications, and knowledge through open collaboration in response to practitioner needs.

The Intern will have the opportunity to shape this new initiative as part of a dynamic, engaged team, while gaining exposure and access to leading ICT4D practitioners inside and outside the World Bank. Specific responsibilities will be determined based on program needs and activities.

The internship will be for a preliminary duration of four months with an imminent start and be based in Washington DC. The Intern will be remunerated based on experience and qualifications based. (This position is not tied to and does not lead to any guaranteed future employment opportunities at the World Bank or its affiliated programs and institutions.)

Profile of desired candidates

 .   A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in technology studies, communication, international development, policy analysis, technology, management, or related fields;
·    Preferably, work experience in areas related to the design, deployment, development, and use of ICT and mobile applications and related technologies;
 ·    Demonstrated English-language writing and strategic communication skills;
 ·    Demonstrated ability for research, analysis, preparation of case studies, web content creation and organizational tasks;
 ·    Self-starting, able to work under minimum supervision, and deliver high-quality work against tight deadlines.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY WITH JARCO CONSULTING PLC


JaRco Consulting PLC is an international consulting firm based in Addis Ababa, 
Ethiopia specializing in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning. The focus of its 
work is in the field of food and livelihood security, HIV and AIDS and health
 and nutrition, with a cross-cutting focus on gender and capacity building. 
JaRco is currently implementing a number of large-scale monitoring and 
evaluation activities in Ethiopia, with a focus on complex baseline assessments,  
evaluation and data quality analysis.

JaRco is immediately seeking a graduate-level candidate for a 6 months to 1 year 
internship based in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. This is a full-time internship beginning 
immediately. The intern will be a member of JaRco's
team on the ground in Addis Ababa and will undertake the following Scope of Work.  

*    Support the program department in implementing a variety of projects.  
*    Participate in the coordination of field work.
*    Participate in tool design and development. 
*    Assist in qualitative and quantitative research. 
*    Help with documentation and report writing.
*    Help with quantitative data entry and analysis.
*    Assist with proposal development as required. 

Required Experience
- Generally pursuing a graduate degree in development studies, monitoring and evaluation,
 public health, economic, sociology or a related field, at the time of participation in the internship.

- Varied computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access); Proficient in managing data 
and creating charts and graphs in Excel, Access, SPSS, CsPro or other related software. 
 Capable of statistical analysis is a plus.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently as well as part of 
a fast-paced team.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

This is a unique opportunity for the right person to gain practical experience in
 international development monitoring and evaluation activities. In addition, 
the successful candidate will gain hands on experience related to qualitative
 and quantitative research methods.  The intern will gain exposure working on
 systems that are key to international development work with donors such as 
USAID, DFID and the World Bank, including frequent contact and interaction with
 local and international NGOs.
