Project Title Basic and Sustainable WASH for the MDGs - Puntland State, Somalia
Specific Objective: Expansion of sustainable environmental services (WASH) for 16 selected peri-urban and rural communities in Garowe, Qardo, Goldogob districts and Baadwayn area of Galkayo district.
The objective of the study (investigation) is to:-
i. To conduct hydro-Geological survey for a drilling of new boreholes in five(5) villages in Garowe, Baadweyn, and Qardo districts, and gather basic data for one or two nearby boreholes each site. ii. Development of boreholes design and preparation of tender documents and specifications iii. Conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment including neighbouring boreholes. iv. Conduct basic hydro-geological and borehole rehabilitation training to CARE and PSAWEN staff involved in the survey.
Specific Deliverables
In reference to the scope of work above, the consultant is expected to lead and accomplish the following:
a) Identify suitable sites for successful drilling of a boreholes b) Develop borehole design and tender documents and specifications c) Conduct Environmental Impact assessment of the proposed boreholes d) Train CARE staff and Partners on basic hydro-geophysical survey, borehole design and key design consideration and standard operation procedures during equipping of boreholes. e) Oral presentations of summary findings, mappings and recommendations to stakeholders f) Compile technical assessment report including recommended techniques and equipment for drilling. g) Final report (English).
Qualifications of Consultant
• The team shall consist of a hydro-geologist with a BSc in Geology or related field and an Environmental Impact assessment expert and technicians.
• Over five years’ solid experience especially in Somali in design of boreholes and preparation of tender documents and specification. • Relevant experience in hydro-geophysical survey and Environmental Impact assessment • Excellent analytical and report writing skills. • Registration with international hydro-geophysical/geology institution or body
