EMERGENCY AND SAFETY AND SECURITY SPECIALIST - Save the Children, Uganda

JOB TITLE: EMERGENCY AND SAFETY AND SECURITY SPECIALIST (01 POSITION)
DUTY STATION: KAMPALA
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, the job holder will be responsible for providing leadership in Country Emergency Planning and preparedness and guidance for emergency response. The person will be responsible for the development and successful implementation of Save the Children's emergency preparedness and response plan for quality and timely emergency response to people affected by disasters in Uganda, with specific focus to children and their families and to serve as the security safety focal point and advisor for Save the Children operations in Uganda

Requirement:

  • A minimum of a Bachelors' Degree in social work and social administration, social sciences development studies, Law, education, or any relevant field.
  • A Masters degree in any relevant field or post Graduate training in Project Management, Community Development and tailored training in emergency preparedness, response and coordination is an added advantage
  • A minimum of eight years professional experience is required in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness or crisis/emergency relief management, at least with an international organization. At least 5 years in a senior management position, or experience working with community based social development projects and with International NGOs particularly those addressing children's rights and those applying a partnership approach.
  • Tertiary qualification or specific work experience in operations/logistics/ supply chain management preferably related to emergency operations.
  • Sound knowledge of, and exposure to, a range of humanitarian assistance, emergency relief and related human rights issues;
  • Advanced analytical skills and in particular the ability to analyze and articulate the humanitarian dimension of issues which require a coordinated response; ability to identify issues and to use sound judgment in applying technical expertise to resolve a wide range of problems;
  • Strong research skills, including the ability to evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources and assess impact on the humanitarian situation in the country under his responsibility are required.
  • Ability to work under extreme pressure, including handling multiple concurrent projects/activities with tight and conflicting deadlines, in a highly stressful environment (e.g. civil strife, natural disasters causing human misery) and to work with minimum supervision is also required,
  • Skills in people management, leadership and ability to work in a multi-­cultural and multi-discipline environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with good written and verbal communication skills. Tact and diplomacy are essential.
  • Strong organisation skills including the ability to plan pro-actively, prioritise and ensure implementation of operation plans to required standards
  • Computer literacy skills - MS Office applications, word, excel, PowerPoint, Spread sheets
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
