From The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation: H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania has sent a condolence message to H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China following a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that hit the South West China’s Yunnan Province on Sunday 3rd August, 2014 claiming at least 398 lives.

 H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania has sent a condolence message to H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China following a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that hit the South West China's Yunnan Province on Sunday 3rd August, 2014 claiming at least 398 lives. 

The message reads as follows:


"H.E. Xi Jinping,
President of the People's Republic of China,
BEIJING,
PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

I have learnt with profound shock and deep sorrow the sad news of a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that hit the South West China's Yunnan Province this Sunday afternoon 3rd August, 2014 claiming at least 398 lives, leaving nearly 2000 injured and homeless as well as causing severe destruction of properties and infrastructure.

On behalf of the Government and the People's of the United Republic of Tanzania, and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to convey my deepest condolences and sympathy to you and through you to the Government and the people of the People's Republic of China and particularly to the bereaved families.

The Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania join with the families of the deceased, the victims and the people of the People's Republic of China in this period of pain and agony. We also pray to the Almighty God to rest the souls of the departed in eternal peace while granting quick recovery to the injured.

Please accept, Your Excellency the assurances of my highest consideration".
