Field Technician - Hargeisa , Somalia


Under the general supervision of the Officer in Charge for Somalia and under the direct supervision of the Head, Inputs and Knowledge Sector, the Field Technician will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Assist in the implementation of research field trials in Aburiin Research station and in FAO training activities. • Follow-up and monitoring of the research activities in Aburiin Research station. • Timely data collection and elaboration of monthly reports related to field activities and trainings. • Surveillance of the needs of the Aburiin Research Station. • Supervision of materials and maintenance of the tools/supplies/assets from FAO in Aburiin Research station in good working conditions. • IPM monitoring and management on field trials in coordination with FAO staff. • Assist in the development and implementation of on farm demonstration plots for Farming Field Schools (FFS) and other co-operators. • Assist in providing educational/practical seminars on Good agronomic practices (GAP), Conservation agriculture (CA) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in situ to FFS, NGOs, technical staff from other co-operators and Aburiin Research station's field staff. • Assist in the coordination of FAO projects with regional stockholders (NGOs, Farmers' Associations, Ministry of Agriculture of Somaliland) and FAO staff. • Assist in facilitating distribution of inputs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
• A relevant degree in agriculture or natural sciences plus a minimum of 1 year of experience in coordinating, managing and monitoring research field trials or Completion of secondary education plus a minimum of five years experience in coordinating, managing and monitoring research field trials. • Good knowledge of computers especially the Microsoft office package (Word, Excel, Power Point). • Working knowledge (level C) of English and working knowledge of the most widely used local language. Somali language is a must.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Previous experience with UN is an asset; Knowledge on Good Agricultural Practises (GAP) / Conservation Agriculture (CA) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM); Good communication and writing skills. Accuracy and excellent attention to details
