| REPOA is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO), registered under the laws of Tanzania with the key functions of undertaking and facilitating research, conducting and coordinating training, as well as the promotion of dialogue and policy development for pro-poor growth and poverty reduction.
REPOA carries out its research and promotes informed policy dialogue on three core themes, namely Growth and Development; Social Protection; and Governance and Service Delivery. REPOA recognizes, however, that the three themes are interrelated, and actively encourages interdisciplinary research across themes.
REPOA is currently seeking to strengthen its Growth and Development research team and invites applications for the following position:
Senior Researcher (Economic growth, rural and agricultural development)
The research team on Growth and Development is expected to carry out research, create new knowledge and promote evidence based dialogue on issues related to economic growth; reduction of income poverty and inequality; resource management for socio-economic transformation; agricultural and rural development; innovation and competitiveness and pro-poor economic policy development.
The Senior Researcher will ensure that the Growth and Development research objectives are achieved by carrying out the following tasks:
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Carrying out in-depth research on economic growth and socio-economic transformation, with focus on agricultural and rural transformation, drawing on the latest academic literature and empirical work both nationally as well as from international sources. 2. Designing and implementing research projects drawn from REPOA's research programme on the growth-poverty nexus. 3. Developing research programme and strategy of implementation on matters related to socio-economic transformation, agricultural and rural development, innovation and competitiveness. 4. Organising seminars and other dialogue mechanisms to stimulate national policy dialogue on matters of agricultural and rural transformation. 5. Preparing publishable papers and policy briefs to inform decision- making processes on issues related to agricultural development and rural transformation at all levels of government. 6. Linking with national and international institutions on agricultural and rural development to facilitate learning and collaboration.
Required Qualifications and Mode of Engagement
- Applicants must be holders of at least a Master's degree in Economics or a related discipline in Social Sciences from a recognised and reputable higher learning institution, and must demonstrate a working knowledge and at least 5 years of research experience on growth, policy analysis, and agricultural and rural development. A PhD will be an added advantage. - Must demonstrate quantitative research skills, have excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. - Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software. - Must have the ability to set priorities and handle competing time and resource demands, have ability to work independently and as a team member. - The Senior Researcher will initially be engaged on a two-year contract with the possibility for renewal upon satisfactory performance.
