LEWI was founded in 1995 as a university-wide research centre at Hong Kong Baptist University to promote research in social sciences and the humanitites, and as a consortium of universities aiming at cultivating academic exchange and collaboration. Recently the Institute has been restructured to undertake research on three major themes:
• Mobility Studies with Comparative Urbanization. Topics of inquiry include, inter alia, comparative experiences on migrancy, transforming spatial stuctures, global citires and mega-urban regions, and housing markets and property bubbles;
• Envrionment, Health and Sustainability. The current focus is on environmental discourse and advertising, environmental claims in marketing communication, and Health Communication; and
• Cross-Cultural Studies. Among the topics to be studied are: Sino-European, Sino-Vatican and Sino-American relations, preferably from a cultural perspective; history of Christianity in China since 1979.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree at the time of appointment in any of the following or cognate disciplines: Environmental Studies and Management, Environmental Psychology, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Urban Studies. Appointment will be made on contract basis of up to three years initially. Re-appointment may be considered subject to performance review and mutual agreement. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
