World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world's leading conservation organization, seeks a Forest & Climate Program (FCP) Lead. The current FCP leader is based in WWF US but the place of work is negotiable, and a residency in a southern tropical forest country may be an added asset. In close consultation with the FCP Shareholders Executive Team (SET), the FCP leader manages the WWF Forest and Climate Program. Sets strategic direction for the program, and provides oversight and technical support for related field-based programs and projects. Leads WWF policy engagement with the international climate negotiations – UNFCCC- in the area of Forest and Climate (this in close consultation with WWF Global Climate and Energy Initiative (GCEI) and with the international and bilateral Forest and Climate funds. Manages budget and fundraising for the program, and manages program staff.
Responsibilities
•Manage the FCP core team of approximately 12 experts and a portfolio of programs of several million dollars a year.
•Develop and submit to the FCP SET proposals regarding WWF network priorities, policies and standards in relation to the Forest and Climate agenda.
•Develop and lead the implementation of WWF network forest and climate strategy and activities, including setting geographical and thematic priorities for WWF work on forest and climate.
•Develop and oversee implementation of strategies and actions to advance WWF positions on REDD (reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation) and forest adaptation in the international negotiations (UNFCCC) multilateral and bilateral agencies.
•Provide technical and policy guidance and support to WWF priority countries to implement at scale forest and climate programs.
•Develop fundraising strategy and associated proposals and reports to both public and private donors and represent WWF in meetings with potential donors.
•Monitor new technical information, scientific understanding, policies and trends in regional and international forest and climate issues and advises key WWF personnel on implications for strategic and annual work plans. Advise key WWF personnel on approaches to address changed conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree as well as a graduate degree in Forestry, Environmental Economics, Rural Development, Climate or similar discipline and twelve (12) years of work experience in a relevant nonprofit, public or private sector organization involved in field-based conservation or development work is required. Direct experience working on field-based conservation, climate or development projects, managing a team of consultants and being accountable to associated funders is required. Experience with managing large projects as well as reporting and managing relations with major donors is needed. Specific experience related to reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD) and other payment for ecosystems services models preferred. Familiarity with international processes around forest carbon policy, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Interim REDD+ Partnership, and international financial institutions is highly desired.

•Clear written and verbal communications skills are required
•Excellent organizational skills
•Ability to work well with senior and mid-level Government officials and WWF staff

•Fluency in English is required; Spanish, French, Portuguese or Indonesian is an asset
