Those who previously applied need not re-apply. The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) became operational in January 2011 and merges and builds on the work of four previous entities of the United Nations which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment: the Division for the Advancement of Women (DSW), the International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW), the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women, (OSAGI), and United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, UN Women works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women is mandated to lead and coordinate UN efforts to ensure commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming; to provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States through effective partnerships with national mechanisms for gender equality, civil society and others, to provide through normative support functions and operational activities guidance and technical support to all Member States, across all levels of development, in all regions. United Nations in Tanzania is a UN Delivering as One (DaO) Pilot operating under One Programme - the UN Development Assistance Plan (UNDAP) 2011-2016. Under the guidance and supervision of the Finance and Operations Manager, the Finance Associate provides financial services ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work.
