United Planet is searching for an Executive Director for United Planet Tanzania to manage and grow existing programs. This competitive position requires a compassionate, globally minded, hard-working individual with strong communication, leadership, and organization skills. This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate will be required to live in Tanzania. United Planet sends volunteers from 2-52 weeks to support vital community projects and immerse in the local culture and language.
As a vital UP team member, the Executive Director will:
· Develop and expand the hosting volunteer program
· Manage the finances of the organization
· Conduct program & cultural orientations
· Manage a Program Coordinator who administers the logistics of the volunteer program
· Prepare cross-cultural training materials and cultural activities for participants
· Assist United Planet in managing and expanding partnerships within the country
· Communicate on a regular basis with the staff in the Boston office
· Serve as the point person for volunteers, host families, project staff and staff in Boston
· Work with the Board Members of United Planet Tanzania
Start date: November 21, 2012 to begin training in Tanzania. The position cannot be done remotely for any period of time.
Qualifications:
- Fluent English skills required
- Experience living in Tanzania or Africa required
- Advanced Swahili skills preferred
· International travel or international exchange participation preferred
· Community service experience preferred
- Superb leadership, organization, and communication skills
· Self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit
- Resourceful, confident, and goal-oriented
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and awareness
· Ability to effectively mediate conflicts
· Ability to serve as a leader in emergency situations
