Swiss TPH Senior medical - Ifakara , Tanzania


The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a public institution with the mandate to contribute to the improvement of the health of populations, both internationally and nationally, through excellence in research, services, teaching and training.

In order to support a hospital strengthening project in Ifakara Tanzania, the Swiss TPH is seeking a Technical Advisor, from December 2012 onwards:

Senior medical doctor with relevant experience in quality of care and hospital strengthening
Tasks will include: • Provide assistance to the strengthening of clinical services and the set-up of a quality assurance system for clinical services; • Support the strengthening of departmental leadership to offer quality services to patients, mentorship of junior doctors, supervision of students; • Facilitate development of treatment guidelines in the hospital setting; • Support M&E activities in relation to quality of care improvements; • Organize and coordinate short term supporting missions of technical back stoppers in specialized areas such as radiology, emergency care, or internal medicine.

The following qualifications are required: • Formal qualification in medicine. A postgraduate training in quality assurance is an asset. • Minimum of 20 years of working experience in the field of medicine preferably at hospital level in developing countries • Strong expertise and proven track record in quality of care strengthening, quality assurance as well as the elaboration of clinical guidelines; • A minimum of 8 years project-related experience in an international environment (=outside native country) , preferably in rural settings • Excellent written and oral command of English and Kiswahili; • Previous management experience and the ability to work independently as well as in a team; • Excellent intercultural competency; • Ability to communicate with national counterparts and international partners.

The expert will be based in Ifakara, Tanzania. Salary will be commensurate with experience, and duration of the contract is two years, with the possibility of extension. We aim to have the successful candidate in place by December 2012. The position to be filled will depend on the successful acquisition of the program by the Swiss TPH.
