HOCET Secondary School (HSS) is seeking an English teacher for a full-time position to begin July 10, 2011. HSS is located in the rural village of Shungubweni in Mkuranga District, and is a special private school dedicated to orphaned and vulnerable teenagers. Pay is competitive, strong benefits package included, and selection is based on educational background, work experience, and commitment to the school mission. Housing, food, health insurance, and transportation stipend benefits are included in the package. Must have teaching diploma or university degree; a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience is preferred; strong English skills required. HOCET Secondary School (HSS) is a free secondary boarding school for orphaned and vulnerable youth that was co-founded in 2007 by US non-profit Kujali International and Tanzanian NGO Hananasif Orphanage Center (HOCET). HSS's mission is to equip Tanzania's youth with the tools, resources, and opportunities to overcome poverty, change their own lives and become agents of change in their own communities. Responsibilities include the following:
- Teaching English national curricula to Form I - Form IV to adequately prepare students for national examinations and equip them with English proficiency;
- Adhering to all HSS policies
- Following the HSS daily timetable and timetable of lessons
- Constructing a scheme of work for each school term; creating daily, written lesson plans, and maintaining an attendance log book
- Formally assessing students no fewer than 2 times per month
- Assuming "Teacher On Duty" Responsibilities
- Participating in all professional development workshops and trainings
- Providing mentoring and tutoring support to students
- Participating in extra-curricular activities
- Participating in monthly meetings with school leadership, and term evaluations
- Contributing toward the school's mission to equip vulnerable teens with the tools to overcome poverty and become leaders in their communities
- Respecting students, staff, and the work environment at all times
