Police in Arusha have killed an armed robbery suspect when he was trying to run away from the hands of law-enforcers.
Arusha Regional Police Commander, Liberatus Sabas, police laid an ambush for armed robbers who allegedly committed a number of crimes few days ago in the city.
 
He named the armed robber suspect killed as George Steven Mtoso alias "G" (21) of Murieti area, on the outskirts of Arusha city.
He said the suspected robber was trying to escape when he was under police escort to show them where he had hid a stolen gun and pistol.
 
RPC Sabas alleged that the suspect was arrested at Daraja Mbili, on April 13, this year and when examined, he admitted to have been involved in a number of crimes one committed at Kijenge and another in Njiro suburb.
 
"When we interviewed him, he admitted to have been involved in a crime incident which happened at the home of Esta Mwamfule in Kijenge suburb, where a number of items were stolen including a TV set and a mobile phone."
 
Sabas told reporters here that the suspect also admitted to have been involved in a burglary incident whereby robbers stormed into somebody's house in Njiro suburb and went away with a gun with registration number 9973 and cash money amounting to US$1,800.
 
He said the suspected armed thug also admitted to have hidden the stolen pistol and the stolen gun to the home of Neema Adam (31) of Lemara suburb.
 
"But, when he was under police escort he tried to run away and police opened fire and he died when he was being taken to the  hospital."
 
The RPC said the suspected robber was at one time jailed and released on March, this year.
 
The RPC further said that three people have been arrested in connection with the incidents.
 
He identified those in custody as Erick Ombeni Palangyo (22) and  Elibariki John (18) all residents of Sinoni area.
