EALA TO HOLD PLENARY IN KIGALI NEXT WEEK: Session to be followed by the eighth Inter-Parliamentary Relations Seminar

East African Legislative Assembly
  
 The East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) resumes business next week holding its Plenary in Kigali, Rwanda. The Plenary which takes place from Monday, October 20th 2014, through to Thursday, October 30th, 2014 is the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the Third Assembly.
 
President Paul Kagame is expected to address EALA's Special Sitting on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. 

The Assembly which is to be presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon (Dr.) Margaret Nantongo Zziwa shall during the two-week period, discuss several legislative matters.

The Sitting expects to debate on the following key areas:
  • the EAC Co-operatives Bill, 2014 (2nd & 3rd Reading)
  • receive and consider reports from various Committees of the Assembly. Such include the Report of the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution and the African Leadership Centre Conference on East Africa Societies and Regional Security and the Report of the Committee on Legal Rules and Privileges on the Capacity Building workshop.  Others are the Report of the Committee on Accounts on the Audited Accounts of EAC for FY 2012/2013 and another key report by the Communications, Trade and Investment Committee.
  • consider several Motions and Questions brought before the House.

EALA shall thereafter hold the eighth Inter-Parliamentary Relations Seminar (Nanyuki Series).   The Seminar themed: Insecurity and Terrorism as threats to EAC integration: How can EAC develop a common position? takes place on October 31st, 2014 to November 2, 2014. The Nanyuki Series brings together Parliamentarians from EALA and the EAC Partner States' Parliaments.
