EAC DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL HOLDS TALKS WITH MEMBERS OF DANISH CONFEDERATION OF INDUSTRY



EAC DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL HOLDS TALKS WITH MEMBERS OF DANISH CONFEDERATION OF INDUSTRY
A delegation of 18 Members of Confederation of Danish Industry International Market Council including Danish Ambassador to United Republic of Tanzania H.E Johnny Flento today paid a courtesy call on the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Infrastructure, Dr Enos Bukuku at the East African Community headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. 
 The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) is a private organisation funded, owned and managed by 10,000 Danish companies within manufacturing, trade and service industry. 
The member companies represent the major proportion of the Danish business community, both in terms of numbers, amount of employees, and volume of exports. 
The EAC Deputy Secretary General briefed the Danish delegation on the major developments taking place in the integration process, notably the operationalization of the EAC Customs Union especially on the Single Customs Territory, status of implementation of the Common Market Protocol, as well as the signed East African Community Monetary Union Protocol and its implementation process. 
Dr Bukuku informed the delegation that the EAC region was undertaking ambitious regional infrastructure development programme in roads, railways, telecommunications and civil aviation. 
He hailed the Danish support to the EAC through the Partnership Fund and other initiatives. 
The EAC Deputy Secretary General reiterated to the Danish delegation that the need to deepen East African integration, and indeed to fulfill the long cherished dream of a united East Africa, cannot be overemphasized. 
The EAC official informed Danish delegation that EAC is people-centered community and the involvement of the private sector, women and youth entrepreneurs, as well as ordinary citizens of East Africa in the integration agenda is critical 
On his part, the Deputy Director General of Confederation of Danish Industry International Market Council, Mr. Thomas Bustrup, who led the Danish delegation thanked his host for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to them and commended the EAC Secretariat for the enormous work done that has led to important milestones in the integration process. 
Later in the day, the EAC Deputy Secretary General Dr Enos Bukuku held talks with Mr. Herve Joly Assistant Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Africa and Mr. Thomas Baunsgaard, the IMF Resident Representative to United Republic Tanzania. 
Dr Bukuku and his guests discussed different issues on the region's  economy especially the EAC Monetary Union Protocol and how IMF can support the implementation process.
