This is an entry grade into Drivers cadre. Duties and responsibilities at this level will involve:
- Driving a motor vehicle as authorized
- Carrying out routine checks on the vehicle, cooling, oil, electrical and
- brake system, tyre pressure etc.
- Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicles systems.
- Maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned
- Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road
- Safety of the passengers and or goods therein.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle
Minimum requirement
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

- Have a KCSE mean grade of D + (plus) or its approved equivalent qualification.
- Have a valid driving license free from any current endorsement (s) Class (BCE) of vehicle (s) an officers is required to drive.
- Have attended a First Aid Certificate course lasting not less than one week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and building technology or any other recognized institution.
- Have passed suitability test for Driver Grade III
- Have passed a practical test for drivers.
- Have at least two (2) years driving experience
- Be a team player and have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Those trained at National Youth Service will have an added advantage.
