CHAMPION Project (Channeling Men's Positive Involvement in a National HIV/AIDS Response) Project which seeks to increase positive male involvement in HIV and reproductive health, is funded by USAID and led by EngenderHealth. The project is implemented in ten regions throughout Tanzania , with the main office located in Dar es Salaam . EngenderHealth is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill in the position of Program Officer,GBV for its CHAMPION Project based in Dar es Salaam , Tanzania . This position is open to Tanzania nationals candidates only.
Scope of Position:
The program officer will help design, coordinate and provide administrative support to CHAMPION's activities related to gender-based violence. Working in close collaboration with the Senior Technical Advisor for Gender, Policy and Advocacy, the Program Officer will ensure that CHAMPION's gender-based violence activities meet local needs, run smoothly, and coordinate well with gender-based violence activities of other partners. The Program Officer will also work with senior technical gender-based violence research, prevention and communications experts to support and carry out situational analyses, training, and communications campaigns on gender-based violence.
Specific Responsibilities::
As the individual responsible for back-stopping CHAMPION's activities on gender-based violence, the Program Officer will:
· Act as a research assistant for a situational analysis and mapping of gender-based violence services and programs, both formal and informal.
· Review gender-based violence prevention resources and identify best practices to be incorporated into CHAMPION's training and community engagement curricula.
· Organize and conduct training in collaboration with other staff on gender-based violence.
· Develop concept notes, budgets and scopes of work for the activities of consultants and subgrantees to implement gender-based violence activities.
· Monitor and provide technical support to the work of CHAMPION's partner NGOs in Iringa, Mbeya and Dar es Salaam , to ensure the implementation of community engagement and mobilization on gender-based violence.
· Liaise with other stakeholders from government, such as the Ministry of Community, Development, Gender and Children, from civil society, as well as donors to identify their technical assistance needs related to gender-based violence and to coordinate their respective activities with CHAMPION's.
· Organize meetings and workshops with and for other partners to disseminate findings and exchange experiences from their respective gender-based violence research and activities.
· Work with communications experts to design and launch a gender-based violence prevention campaign.
· Participate in networks for gender based violence and related issues.
· Assist with developing and writing technical and/or research papers that document the achievements of CHAMPION's gender-based violence work.
· Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities::
· Experience working on gender or gender-based violence is a must.
· Knowledge of laws and policies related to gender-based violence and familiarity of current programs responding to gender-based violence in Tanzania .
· Familiarity with the health sector and local government structures in Tanzania .
· Excellent knowledge of issues related to gender based violence, women's empowerment, male involvement, gender alignment and the promotion of gender equality.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
· Strong analytic skills to design and coordinate gender-based violence programs.
· Conceptual thinker, with excellent follow-through and organizational skills.
· Good facilitation skills and ability to speak in public.
· Strong computer skills necessary for data analysis and reporting , including Microsoft-Word , Excel, and qualitative data analysis software.
· Strong interpersonal , teamwork , and leadership skills.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Experience on communications campaigns related to gender or social change a plus.
· Experience with donor funded programs (especially USAID) is a plus.
· Ability to travel up-country up to 20% of time.
· Experience in writing technical documents in English preferred.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Master's preferred.
· Proven experience in gender, reproductive health and/or HIV/STI-related projects
· A personal and professional commitment to gender equality and non-violence is required.
· Excellent English and Kiswahili writing and oral communication skills. Fluency in both languages preferred.
· Computer literate with proficiency in data handling
