Deadline
for submission of proposals: Thursday 11th August 2011, 17:00:00
Brussels local time
The purpose of
pursuing FP7 Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships and International
Incoming Fellowships is to bring experienced researchers to UCD for periods
of 1 to 2 years in fields of study related to the research interests of UCD
staff members. Marie Curie Fellowships have a bottom-up approach, i.e. research
fields are chosen freely by the applicants.
All fields of interest to the European Union are eligible for funding.
These
Marie Curie actions are directed exclusively at researchers who are in
possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time
equivalent research experience.
Experienced researchers of any nationality are eligible to apply.
Mobility is a central pillar of Marie Curie
funding so researchers must move to UCD from another country. They
must not have resided or carried out
their main activity in Ireland for more than 12 months in the 3 years
immediately prior to the proposal submission date. Mobility is
considered to be very positive
for the development of a researcher. It
allows the acquisition of new skills, new knowledge and new perspectives, all
contributing to the enhancement of creativity, efficacy and performance,
thereby contributing to career development and a successful, competitive,
knowledge-based society.
Proposals are submitted jointly by the individual researcher and the UCD
academic who will be the future supervisor of the fellow. However, the
burden on the UCD staff member is relatively light as most of the work involved
is the responsibility of the researcher. The main tasks of the UCD
academic are to identify a potential applicant who meets the criteria of one of
the schemes and to guide and supervise him/her in filling in the research parts
of the application.
Financial support takes the form of a grant covering a salary for the
researcher and a contribution towards expenses related
to his/her participation in research and training activities.
Additionally, UCD receives contributions to overheads and management
costs.
1.
FP7 Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowships (IEFs)
Marie
Curie Intra-European Fellowships for career development aim at providing
advanced training tailored to researchers' individual needs. The
objective is to improve the researchers' prospects
of reaching and/or reinforcing a position of professional maturity, diversity
and independence or to permit them to resume their career.
Experienced researchers applying to this action
need to identify and develop a research training project that will provide the
means to advance significantly in their career.
A fundamental concept underlying this action is that of advanced
training and life-long learning. In
essence, the fellowship should enable the experienced researcher to
progress in the development of his/her
career. The fellowship is expected to be
part of a structured, long-term professional development plan that is coherent
with past achievements and clearly defines the future aims of the researcher.
In order
to comply with the mobility rule for this action, researchers must
move to UCD from
a Member State or Associated Country.
Intra-European Fellowships have a minimum duration of 12 months up to a
maximum of 24 months (full-time equivalent).
The IEF grant agreement will be between the European
Commission Research Executive Agency and UCD.

2. Marie
Curie International Incoming Fellowships (IIFs)
Marie Curie International Incoming
Fellowships aim to attract top-class experienced researchers from third
countries to work and undertake research training in Europe with a view to
developing mutually-beneficial research co-operation. The objective
is to reinforce the scientific
excellence of the Member States and Associated Countries through knowledge
sharing with top-class researchers active in a third country coming to work on
research projects in Europe. It is
expected that the experienced researcher will typically have a senior profile
in terms of experience.
In order to comply with the mobility
rule for this action, researchers must move to UCD from a third
country. International
Incoming Fellowships have a minimum duration of 12 months up to a maximum of 36
months, with an incoming phase of 12 to 24 months and a possible return phase
of 12 months. If the researcher was active in one of the
International Cooperation
Partner Countries (e.g. in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia), the
possibility is provided to assist the researcher to return to this country,
thus contributing to the establishment of sustainable cooperation between these
countries and European organisations. The
return phase will normally commence not later than 6 months after the
termination of the incoming phase. The IIF grant agreement will be
between the European Commission
Research Executive Agency and UCD. In
the case of an eligible return phase, a separate grant agreement is
signed with the return host
organisation and financial support is provided for the effective reintegration
of the experienced researcher in the return country.
