 MS Action Aid Denmark seeks to employ the Director for  it’s regional  development training Centre ,MS-TCDC . ActionAid Denmark (AA DK) is a membership-based Danish NGO working for just and democratic governance and empowerment of the world’s poorest. AA DK became an Associate Member of ActionAid International (AAI) in 2008 gaining full independent membership in June 2010.  Together, we fight poverty in more than 50 countries.

MS- Training Centre for Development Cooperation  (MS-TCDC )
MS-TCDC  is located in Arusha Tanzania. It is part of the Training for Change Unit  of Action Aid Denmark. The centre employs more than 80 full time staff and provides high quality transformative development training, reflection and consultancy services to programmes of MS Action Aid Denmark, Action Aid International and other civil society organisations and their partners. It’s main goal to increase the competence of civil society organisations and partners to effectively conduct their development programmes and influence policy environments. Its’ mission statement is to increase these organisations’ capacities to empower people to question their situation and act to realise their vision of a dignified life.

Every year, the centre trains approximately 2500 participants. Approximately 80% of the participants are drawn from Eastern and Southern Africa while the rest come from different parts of the world. The center also provides technical services to government and UN staff, as well as embassies. The Centre offers Swahili courses and conference facilities.

MS-TCDC’s training methodology is based on an experiential learning approach. We firmly believe that all our participants have diverse and useful experiences. We also believe that adults learn best when facilitated to share and learn from these experiences in interaction with theoretical frameworks. Courses therefore need to be participatory and interactive in nature and enjoyable. This is reflected in our 3 training values : Relevant, Empowering and Innovative.

MS-TCDC Programme Focus
Since 2007, ActionAid Denmark  global programme strategy focusing on Building Local Democracy and its five sub-components (Building Local Democracy through Accountability & Empowerment, Anti-Corruption, Land Rights, Trade Justice & Conflict Management) has substantially shaped the focus of  our TCDC annual training programme and curriculum.  Tailor-made  courses and consultancies  take place at MS-TCDC or  outside. This client –focused support focus on 3 main areas:
• Conduct training similar to what we offer in the course catalogue but tailored to suit individual organisational needs /customer.
• Interventions to help organisations solve specific problems or enhance specific  capacities  in form of consultancies.
Conduct social surveys and evaluations that can be used to plan for sustainable development intervention in communities .



SUMMARY OF JOB
The Director / Principal has the final financial, staff and policy responsibility and authority in MS-TCDC. As such, the Principal plays an overall role in ensuring an adequate match between human and financial resources on the one hand and on the other hand existing and new tuition programme needs. Tasks furthermore involve these specific objectives:
·          Directing the design and  delivery of diverse training programmes  and related obligations  in a changing institutional environment
·         Relating values and policies emerging from AAI DK to TCDC setting while responding to existing experience at MS-TCDC;
·         Maintaining cohesion among staff through collaboration with staff members and the trade union
·         Promoting cost-effectiveness and high levels of income-generation while responding to values and policy concerns of AAI DK and other users of the centre;
·         Enhancing the centre's outreach to wider groups of civil society organisations and their partners in Eastern and Southern Africa while locating MS-TCDC at the core of MSiS policy debates.
·         Manage external relations to partners, donors, local authorities, media etc

SUMMARY OF PROFILE
·         Leadership and management experience within a  large  training organisation
·         Demonstrated ability to managage  mutiple stakeholders in an INGO context
·         Extensive  experience in strategy development, programme planning, budgeting, financial management, evaluation and reporting
·         Significant experience   directing the   design,promotion and delivery of  a range of  high quality training programmes.
·         Experience managing  and motivating performance of  diverse staff including senior and  highly qualified personel
·         Experience raising  and managing funds from  multiple donors
·         Experience delivering training and supervising consultancy
·         Multi-level networking experience

MININUM  QUALIFICATIONS
·          At least a Masters Degree in Social Science
·          Min. 8 years working experience of which min. 3 years were in a management position
·          Experience in and solid understanding of Poverty and Development issues
·          Experience in strategy development and execution
·          Working experience from an African context
·          Background in the non-profit/Civil Society sector and preferably market driven enterprises
·          Knowledge of adult education and flair for participatory training
·          Proven  strategic, analytical and problem solving skills
·          Excellent leadership  qualities  and organisational  skills.
·         Flexibility, patience, interest in taking part in other cultures
·         Ability to cooperate and maintain open dialogue with staff
·         Willingness to travel

Terms and Conditions
The position will be based at the Training Centre in Arusha,. The position is offered under ActionAid International’s international terms and conditions with a fixed term contract for 3 years with the possibility of extension.
