Senior Program Officer - Conservation Enterprise , Zambia


For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African Conservation and sustainable development. AWF is currently seeking a talented professional to drive planning and execution of conservation enterprise development within AWF's southern Africa operations.

Key Responsibilities
The SPO – CE will work with the Kazungula Heartland Director and other relevant officers in supporting the development and testing of a range of enterprise development services aimed at improving the commercial returns to private and communal land owners from nature based and agricultural based enterprises. The SPO – CE is an integral member of AWF's program team in the Kazungula Heartland, and will be responsible for managing the conservation enterprise program at programmatic and operational levels Southern Africa (AWF's Kazungula, Limpopo and Zambezi Heartlands). At the operational level, the day-to-day role shall involve developing conservation enterprises that promote landscape-level conservation of natural resources, drafting and negotiating business partnerships, providing entrepreneurial capacity building to various partners and being responsible for project management for all enterprise based activities in the Heartlands.

The successful candidate will have;
 A Master's degree in degree in Business Administration, Enterprise Development, Project Management, Economics or related field; or  A Bachelors' degree in Business Administration, Enterprise Development, Development Studies or Project Management or with at least 5 years direct experience in Enterprise development.  At least 5 years expertise in the private sector or in enterprise development with proven experience in implementing successful enterprise activities in challenging conditions.  An entrepreneurial spirit  Natural leadership skills  Demonstrated experience in project management  Demonstrated experience in working in the field with communities and private sector operators  A proactive nature of problem solving  Cultural sensitivity  Financial acumen  Proven negotiation expertise  Business development skills  A passion for conservation  Superb English (French preferred)
