ACCOUNTS SUPERVISOR – 1 Post

African Barrick Gold (ABG) seeks to appoint a dedicated, self motivated and highly organized Accounts Supervisor to join the Finance and Administration Department - Shared Business Centre.  Based in Dar es Salaam, the successful person will be responsible for the supervision of a team of accountants, resolving identified issues, addressing the risks identified and for communication to the senior accountants and management. 

Reporting Line: Senior Accountant

Location:  Shared Business Centre - Dar es Salaam Office
Work Schedule: Residential (Monday to Friday full day and Saturday half day)

KEY AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The successful candidate willl assume responsibility for ensuring that the required tasks have been performed and completed on time and in line with reporting framework and timeline as set out by the corporate office.

The successful applicant will need to be able to manage a team and have good communication skills.  The candidate will be required to have an in depth understanding of Mine Accounting.

The candidate will be required to keep abreast of all Accounting Standard Changes.  The Accountant Supervisor will be tasked with coordinating his/her team’s response when his/her team’s work is audited.

·         The main areas for which the person will be responsible is as follows:
o        Revenue
o        PPE
o        Inventory
o        Accounts Payable
o        Accounts Receivable
o        Intercompany
o        Rehabilitation Provision
o        Accruals
o        Payroll
o        Cash in bank
o        And any other accounting section required for the mine that he is tasked with.

·         Key result areas will include
o        Accept responsibility for the preparations of monthly accounts
o        Managing his/her team so as to ensure that they complete the required tasks
o        Managing the daily follow up on outstanding documentation from the mine site and Johannesburg Office
o        Managing the monthly reconciliation and ensuring that key controls are compiled with
o        Dealing with external, internal and government auditors as regards to accounting issues
o        Ensuring that all journals are passed correctly
o        Liaising with PWC on outstanding matters
o        Liaising with the accounts payable department on outstanding issues and errors
o        Liaising with the Payroll department on outstanding issues and errors
o        Liaising with the mine site on outstanding issues and errors
o        Weekly reporting on progress made, issues identified and planned action to resolve.
o        Establish communication lines with the mine site
o        Training of his/her team
o        Performance Management of his/her team and ensuring that his/her team get the support that they need to perform as required

·         Ad hoc projects management


QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicants must have the following qualifications/skills:

Education:

  • University degree preferably in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or any related field.
  • Accounting qualifications, preferable in CPA, ACCA, CA. 
  • Familiarity with IFRS and SOX.

Work Experience:
  • At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in mining accounting.
  • A minimum of one year experience in the mining industry in Tanzania is a must.
  • Exposure to a global multinational is desirable

Other Skills or Competencies:
  • Computer literacy; competent in Microsoft Office packages.
  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule
  • Willingness to travel
